When Fire Is a Good Thing: To Burn or not to Burn
Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology Professor Ralph Boerner is the lead author of Earth and Fire: Forests Rely on Healthy Soils for a Well-rounded Diet. This newly-released USDA Forest Service publication is designed for forest and land managers in industry, government and non-profits, summarizing relevant research in a management-friendly manner. Boerner has been involved in this national-scale project for the past decade. Boerner's research focuses on the effects of fire, atmospheric deposition, landscape structure, and management issues of soil and forest floor ecology in northern and southern temperate zones.
